Oleg Fomichev: Russia and India build a bridge for innovations

The State Secretary – the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Oleg Fomichev delivered a speech at a plenary session Destination India: R&D and Innovations for Socio-Economic & Industrial Development within the Global R&D Summit 2017.

Oleg Fomichev noted that Russia and India are traditionally connected by their long-lasting good-neighbourhood communications. “Today the relations between our countries continue to develop in many directions in the spirit of mutually beneficial cooperation, including socio-economic and innovative expansion”, – he added.

The Deputy Minister told about the main results of joint efforts of Russia and India: creation of joint iron and steel works, heat and hydroelectric power stations, chemical and petrochemical companies, gas pipelines, highways, agricultural facilities and transport infrastructure, as well as collaboration in nuclear power sector.

In particular, he reminded of SIBUR butyl rubber production plant and Reliance Industries in Jamnagar, assembly production of KAMAZ trucks and industrial tractors in India, joint with the Indian partners promotion of regional passenger planes Sukhoi Superjet-100 and MS-21, the project of Dauria Aerospace and Aniara Communications Pvt. Ltd for deployment of NextStar Earth geo-based group telecommunication devices, based on a small low-budget platform, and others. “Cutting-edge technologies, innovative collaboration and cooperation in science and technology is the promising direction for this bilateral partnership”, – emphasized Oleg Fomichev.

The Deputy Minister also informed about the agreement of the two countries to create a new form of their dialogue on innovations and a coordination commission on innovative cooperation in order to implement it. “It will enable us to exchange the best practices of innovative policy execution, experience in the field of demand generation for such production, support of export, maintaining of infrastructure, implementation of investment projects related to innovations, promotion of entrepreneurship”, – he specified.

Currently the reparation of the Memorandum of understanding in regard to innovation, which will allow starting the Russian-Indian dialogue on innovations, is ongoing.

Besides, based on the Indian colleagues' proposal the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation also joined the implementation of “India Russia Bridge for Innovations” program aimed at the strengthening of bilateral ties and joint activities for development of a comprehensive innovative ecosystem.
